History Educational Visits
Tuesday 20th November 2018
As part of our History curriculum, in which we were studying castles, two trips were organised to local historical sites. Firstly, we visited Sandal Castle, Wakefield where we learned about the structure of a Motte and Bailey castle and the events of the Battle of Wakefield that happened there. A few days later we visited Pontefract Castle and having walked round, looking at the layout of the castle, we were then entertained to a fascinating guided tour of the underground cells that were, at one time, used as dungeons and, later, storage for the local delicacy – liquorice, for which Pontefract is famous.
